Ken Murray
Guitarist
Guitarist Ken Murray graduated with the degree of Master of Music from the University of Melbourne in 1994. As part of his postgraduate studies, Ken researched the life and works of Spanish guitarist and composer Angel Barrios. He has recently recorded a CD featuring the music of Barrios and Manuel de Falla. He has a special interest in contemporary music and his experiences working with Australian composers led to the release of Between Earth and Air, a CD featuring premier recordings of Australian works for guitar. He has performed around Australia, including guitar festivals in Frankston and Darwin, ABC Radio, Brunswick Music Festival, Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigos in New South Wales, and the John Adams opera El Nino at the 2002 Adelaide Festival. He has toured to Portugal, Spain, Japan, England (Aldeburgh Festival) and the Netherlands. Ken has performed plugged and unplugged in many ensembles, including Elision, Libra and re-sound. He currently teaches guitar at the University of Melbourne and Monash University, and has recently released a second CD (with guest guitarist Owen Thomson) entitled Homenaje: Manuel de Falla and his Contemporaries.
