Ken Murray - Guitar
Craig
Beard - Percussion/Vibraphone
Saturday 5 April 2003 - Fitzroy Gallery, Fitzroy
For Musica Intima's first event for 2003, we re-visited what has become a favourite venue - the Fitzroy Gallery. The gallery's owner, Peter Andrionakis, himself an artist, warmly welcomed us again, and members of the audience were able to enjoy the art both in the gallery and in the garden, where a fire was blazing to warm body and soul! Guitarist Ken Murray and Percussionist Craig Beard played (to a very full house!) a programme mainly consisting of Brazilian music, including composers Luis Bonfa, Eduardo Sainz de la Maza, Ralph Towner, David Friedman, Garoto, Baden Powell, Antonio Lauro, Astor Piazzolla, Chick Corea and Ken Murray himself. The sonorities created by the combinations of guitar, bongos, and vibraphone seemed to be 'lapped up' by the listeners, relaxed and satisfied as they were by sangria, champagne, and delicious food appropriate to the occasion prepared once again by the inimitable Devorah Wynn. We look forward to returning to the Fitzroy Gallery.

Art
and Life
Linda Kouvaras - Piano
Vivien Hamilton - Soprano
Saturday
20 September, 2003 -- Rechabite
Hall, Northcote
For Musica Intima's second event in 2003, we were very happy to have Linda Kouvaras (composer, pianist, musicologist) perform for us again, this time joined by well-known Melbourne soprano Vivien Hamilton. The sense of 'deja vu' also carried over to the venue - the Rechabite Hall, Westbourne Grove, Northcote, where Musica Intima's inaugural event was held in October 2001. The two performed works by Linda Kouvaras for solo piano, and settings of poems by Chris Wallace-Crabbe, Diane Fahey and Bronwen Bartal, featuring Linda’s song cycle, “Art and Life”, a poignant tale which traces the life of a woman in her early adulthood. It was a wonderful performance given to a full hall. Wines, accompanied by a cheese and dried fruit platter (tantalising both visually and otherwise!) were enjoyed by all before and after the performance, with people lingering to chat for quite a while.
