Urban Winterscapes
Ken Murray - Guitar
Craig Beard - Percussion/Vibraphone

Saturday 22 July 2006 -- Nodrum Gallery, Richmond

For Musica Intima's “Phoenix” event – our first since “Alone by the Sea” in 2004 - Charles Nodrum generously allowed us to use his Gallery space, ideal for our purposes. Guitarist Ken Murray and Percussionist Craig Beard, who had previously performed for us to a very full house at the Fitzroy Gallery, played a wonderful programme of music that evoked Winter by Sergio Assad, Leo Brouwer, Ralph Towner, David Friedman, and themselves. Once again their undisputed musicianship and the sonorities created by the combinations of guitar, bongos, and vibraphone were thoroughly enjoyed by the listeners, who had been relaxed and warmed already on a cold Winter’s eve by Jillian’s mulled wine, Spanish sherry, sparkling wine and Nancy’s delicious food. We hope to have another opportunity in the future to return to the Charles Nodrum Gallery.

Music for Spring
Simon Walkenhorst - Piano
Beth Williams – Mezzo Soprano

Sunday 3 September 2006 – Chrysalis Gallery, East Melbourne

For Musica Intima's second concert in two months, we were fortunate to be able to use as our venue Delwyn Freestone’s Chrysalis Gallery, complete with baby grand piano – a real find. Mezzo soprano Beth Williams and her husband, pianist Simon Walkenhorst, performed for a very appreciative audience, which filled the front room of Chrysalis Gallery. Simon played works by Mozart and Tcaikovsky, and together they performed some songs by Copland, as well as giving a very moving interpretation of Schumann’s beautiful Frauenlieben und Leben. Before and after the wonderful performance, audience members had the opportunity to sample “boutique” beer made by Simon and Beth at their brewery, ‘Hargreaves Hill’. Champagne, strawberries, cheeses, figs and other delicacies were also enjoyed.
