Rosemary Hodgson
Lute and Theorbo Player
Performing both as a soloist and in ensemble with La Compania, Rosemay Hodgson has given concerts in Britain, Venezuela, Portugal, Germany, Tasmania, Adelaide and Melbourne. She appears frequently on ABC, 3MBS, and Radio National, and is featured in La Compania's CD 'Music of the Spanish Renaissance' (MOVE).
Rosemary attended the Victorian College of the Arts from 1990 to 1992, and completed her graduate studies at the University of Melbourne. From 1998 to 2000, she was based in the UK where she studied lute, vihuela and baroque guitar with Jakob Lindberg. Whilst in London, Rosemary performed in memorable venues such as The Globe Theatre, St Paul's Cathedral and St James's, Piccadilly. In July 2000, she was joint winner of the Early Music Century Prize and became the first vihuelist to graduate from the Royal College of Music, with a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance - Early Music.
In 2001, Rosemary received a grant from the Ian Potter Cultural Turst, to further her professional development and continuo playing in England, Portugal and Sweden. Together with London-based soprano Sophia Brumfitt, she formed Rosa Mundi to explore the exquisite bridge between Renaissance and Baroque song. Rosemary is currently research assistant to Professor John Griffiths, University of Melbourne, editing the Barbarino Lute Book.
